Ultra-Millionaire Tax Act of 2024 (S. 4017 and H.R. 7749, 118th Congress)

Lapsed

Rewrites the 2021 text as a zero bracket to $50 million, 2% to $1 billion and 3% above (6% with Medicare for All) and adds rules for trusts.

Overview

The 2024 Ultra-Millionaire Tax Act rewrites the 2021 text as a zero bracket up to $50 million, 2% up to $1 billion and 3% above, with 6% above $1 billion if Medicare for All is in effect. It adds rules for trusts.

Representative Pramila Jayapal introduced it in the House on 20 March 2024 as H.R. 7749, and Senator Elizabeth Warren in the Senate on 21 March as S. 4017. Both were referred to committee and the bill status data records nothing after that; it lapsed with the 118th Congress. The official sponsor and cosponsor lists match the register apart from one member who has died.
